Lingtech Sunbeam - a quantum leap

Lingtech Sunbeam is a statistics-based automated translation system. A database is built up consisting of relatively large amounts of text previously translated between two languages. The system builds a statistical model of the relationship between the two languages. After Lingtech Sunbeam has created a translation, the text is polished by a translator. This revised text is then used to improve the system.

Requirements

The system is dependent upon parallel texts in two languages. It may be a question of, for example, previously translated manuals or product descriptions. The quality of the translation is continuously improved through new text-input.

The major advantages of automated translation are speed and quality. Lingtech Sunbeam translates so quickly and so thoroughly that one translator can complete three times as much text as would otherwise have been possible if the technology had not been used. This means that large projects that previously had to be divided among several translators can now be handled by one translator.
